From the String Lake Trailhead, head southwest briefly to connect. Lorraine and Orrin Bonney suggested naming this peak "Mount Fryxell," although as of this writing, this is an unofficial eponym for Peak 11270. You will be able to easily see the mountain and the route from here. Paintbrush Canyon Trail to Paintbrush Divide is a 18 mile hike with 3,843 feet elevation gain. Definitely recommend hiking/running up Paintbrush Canyon and down Cascade. Hike roughly 5.5 miles to elevation roughly 10300 ft., in upper Paintbrush Canyon. This is one of the most picturesque and popular overnight trails in the Tetons. Hike up Paint Brush Canyon until you see Mt Fryxell (Peak 11270 on USGS Mt Moran 7.5 minute quad) which is just South of Paintbrush Divide. If you are visiting, follow the signs to Hidden Falls and then backtrack to Inspiration Point and on up the Canyon. A quarter mile from the trailhead, follow the signs to stay on the String Lake Trail (go right at the fork). Big tip: Be at the Jenny Lake Boat dock at 6:50 AM with 5 cash per person and you not only save money on the boat ride, but you will have some solitude on your hike up (and beat the heat). Paintbrush Canyon From the String Lake trailhead, cross the bridge over the outlet creek from String Lake. The views of the aforementioned mountains from here is incredible.Start hike at either Jenny Lake or String Lake Trailhead. The Paintbrush Canyon Cascade Canyon Loop starts and ends at the String Lake Trailhead. Push your way up this insanely steep pitch, and be sure to look back to see what you've accomplished. If you're attempting this trail prior to August, an ice axe may be necessary. After ~.5mi, Paintbrush Canyon makes its final push up to Paintbrush Divide (10,720'). This strenuous 19 mile loop takes you up Paintbrush Canyon, over Paintbrush Divide to Lake Solitude, and back out Cascade Canyon. To continue on Paintbrush Canyon, stay left at this intersection. Be on the lookout for moose - they love this less-trafficked trail.Īt the 4.4 mile point, Paintbrush Canyon trail intersects Holly Lake trail, which gives users the option to dip their feet in one of the beautiful high-alpine lakes Grand Teton has to offer. Until ~4.4miles, the trail is ensconced in trees, so the views are fleeting. Easily accessed from the String Lake Trailhead. Once it turns due west, however, and enters the canyon proper, the trail becomes much steeper. Paintbrush Canyon is one of least visited canyons in Grand Teton National Park, yet one of the most stunning. Initially the trail contours Rockchuck Peak (11,145') and isn't too steep. From the west edge of String Lake, Paintbrush Canyon trail branches off of the String Lake Trail and heads northwest into Paintbrush Canyon.
